Two teens Injured in Car Accident

Belmont, Mass. - Two teenagers were severely injured after their speeding vehicle overturned on a darkened stretch of Mile Hill Road at Tuesday evening. One of the two unknown female passengers was airlifted to Mass. General Hospital.

Rescuers pried the two female teens from the crumpled Ford Mustang in a 45 minute effort while the driver of the car, Jamie Peterson, 17, of Belmont, escaped from the wreck uninjured. According to Lieutenant Judith Barkus of the Belmont Police Department, the identity of the young females remains unknown.

“I’ve never seen a car going so fast on this road,” said witness Josie M. Crandall of 27 Mile Hill Road. Crandall called police around 9 p.m.  after seeing  the crash from her living room window.  

First on the scene was 17-year-old Tom Carroll Jr. According to police reports, Carroll had been driving behind the Mustang when the driver increased speed around a curve. “I thought the worst. They were flying,” said Carroll.

Following the fatal accident of Dec. 24, 2005, Belmont residents exercise caution while traveling the dirt road. “You realize when you see it what could happen, especially on this road,” Carroll said.
